The Tragically Hip Sees Growth Opportunity in Cannabis Sector

It could very well become an entirely new sector of tourism and those who are forward-thinking and preparing for it, could have a leg up in the Market.
Today iconic Canadian band, The Tragically Hip, announced they would be partnering with, and investing in, Canada’s newest and soon-to-be publically traded, licensed Marijuana producers, NewStrike. It would be tough to argue that the Cannabis sector is not going mainstream when a band like “The Hip” is going public with a partnership with Newstrike. Who would have seen that coming?
It’s smart though. The throngs of twenty-somethings who had spent many nights in the crowd watching one of their own up on stage, thrilling them with the driving beat of their countless tunes, are now forty- and fifty-something professionals with investment capital and kids who are coming of age. And for the most part, they are supportive of legalization, as it regulates and controls distribution.
So what does it means for travel and tourism? There will come a day in the not-too-distant future when plane loads of tourists seeking out weed, herb, ganja, or dope (I’m not sure what to call it anymore, my daughter mocked me the other day because I referred to it as “Pot”), will arrive in Canada and some smart receptive Tour Operator will be waiting to transfer them to their hotel, schedule the meet-and-greet, and sell them tours like Tour #1 - King West - Weed Walk, or Tour #2 - Kensington Market - Discover Edibles…or maybe even Tour #3 - The CN Tower – The Highest you can get in Toronto. Whatever form it takes, it is coming, and faster than you think. So is the Tourism sector going to be ready? Clearly someone is already thinking about it as CannabisTours.com and WeedWalk.com are both taken.
“There is a commitment from the federal government to legalize recreational use in just over a year and with good reason.”, said a statement issued by the “The Hip“ (or “The Boys” as they are often referred to). “We are excited about our involvement with NewStrike and are looking forward to the prospect of contributing creatively to their efforts.”
