Showering While Road Tripping: More Challenging Than You Think

Believe it or not, showering can be quite the tricky task while road tripping. In a few of my previous blogs, I’ve mentioned that we often travel overnight in our car to cover more ground, and move to new destinations quicker. This generally means skipping an overnight stay at a hotel … thus no morning shower.
So why is showering so hard for us at times?
Well, when you travel all night and explore all day, when do you have time to stop and shower … and where?
How do we cope while on the road?
We’ve learned to map out local wave pools and rec centers where we’re able to go in for a quick swim, a dip in the hot tub and a nice shower before continuing on with our road trips. It`s a great way to relax and enjoy some downtime outside of the car.
Road trip tip: map out several different locations. Although we’ve never had problems getting into a rec center or wave pool, we`ve come across some that are members only. They often bend the rules for us, but if you`re ever somewhere and they say no, it`s good to have other options. I personally like to map out several different locations in each town, if we make it to one town instead of another, or take an adventure detour, at least we have options in different towns.
Now that we’re not crazy college students anymore, we’ve learned to slow down a little and enjoy our road trips more. We now plan rest days in-between long hall driving days, so we have a nice rest day in a hotel with a comfy bed and a nice shower.
Flash-back to our first road trip six years ago; we hit the open road not knowing what to expect. We mapped out what cities we wanted to see across the country, and off we went. It wasn’t until day three when we made it to the mid-west that we realized we hadn’t planned anywhere to shower.
What’s your biggest challenge while road tripping?
