Family Travel: A Multi-Generational Affair

These days, instead of just taking their kids on trips to grandma and grandpa’s, parents are taking their children on trips with the grandparents.
Multi-generational travel, as this is called, is defined as leisure trips that include three or more generations of a family. With grandparents retiring into more active lifestyles with the time and money to travel, this is a trend that is set to grow well into the future.
According to the Family Travel Association’s (FTA) “Family Travel Survey 2016,” 60 percent of respondents have taken a multi-generational trip, and of the 40 percent who have not, 26 percent are considering this option for future vacations.
The No. 1 reason for multi-generational travel is travelers’ desire to spend more time enjoying memorable experiences with the people who matter most to them.
Building stronger bonds begins even before the trip does, with each member getting involved in planning—from choosing the destination to deciding on what to do when the family gets there. Popular activities include cultural, educational and adventure travel in places as diverse as Italy and Iceland, Mexico and Mongolia.
While everyone might have their own trip priorities, yet often specific needs, interests and activity levels, one priority that should be common to all is having a safe trip.
An annual multi-trip plan is an ideal way to offer flexible, budget-friendly coverage for both families and individuals. It’s also good for other trips throughout the year, whether your clients are heading south for the winter or taking the kids on their annual summer vacation.
