There's fine dining, then there are the experiences on this list. These are the all-out, over-the-top restaurants. To eat here, it will cost you. However, chances are you will not regret the experience. Take a look at our list and get ready for your taste buds to tingle.
Masa — New York City
This is the culinary genius created by Chef Masa Takayama. The eatery is located in the Time Warner Center and the chef advises that you be prepared to stay for a while as the meal service takes about three hours total. There is no set menu; the chef simply comes up with creations based on your suggestions. Also, you might want to come with a loaded wallet since the dinner tab of $350 per person can add up quick, even for just two people!
Misoguigawa — Kyoto, Japan
Eating here will only set you back about $165 per person, unless of course you want the fancy version of the multi-course meal. That experience will cost around $270 per person. The food here is described as French with a Japanese twist. All of a sudden, the price does not matter so much when you see things such as beef filet, potato soufflés, and roasted pumpkin on the menu. Of course, you can finish off with chocolate Marquise and berries and a pistachio cream sauce for dessert. The restaurant also features several private rooms that can be booked in advance for a more intimate dining experience.
Le Pre Catelan — Paris, France
At this Parisian restaurant, you will find yourself dining right in the middle of Bois de Boulogne. The dishes aren't too pricey, starting out at under $100 each, but they do offer a five-course meal that will set your wallet on its ear a bit. That one comes in at just under $200 per person. However, with that you get such things as prawn ravioli, or veal that features a cinnamon scented purée as a side dish. Most patrons go for the bread and wine, which of course are always important no matter where you find yourself eating.
Gordon Ramsay — London, England
Head over to the screaming chef’s restaurant and dine at Gordon Ramsay. We promise he won't show up and make hay unless you complain about the meal. The three-course price point starts at around $320. Then, there is the 12.5 percent gratuity that brings the total closer to $360 per person. Of course, the food is outstanding and the menus feature seasonal dishes in rotation. Just keep in mind that one meal here means you will probably be eating Ramen for the remainder of the month.
Restaurant Crissier — Switzerland
Few restaurants have the distinguished honor of receiving three stars from Michelin, yet Crissier has done just that. It sells itself as offering a complete sensory experience, and continues to receive accolades from critics and customers alike. Some of the more well known dishes include white catfish saint-gilles-croix-de-vie cooked with lemongrass, and paired nicely with roasted mushrooms and a red fruit soufflé. Be prepared to spend a little over $400 per person to be here, but it will truly be the experience of a lifetime. In Switzerland after all, you can splurge a little.
Now you have a few little dining gems to add to your travel plans the next time you are in the mood to have a nice meal while on vacation. These are pricey, but the food is phenomenal. This might be one of the only instances in your life where you have had to save money for months just to tip your waiter! Yet, think of the stories you will have!
