Flying out east just got a bit easier with the announcement that 24 Primary Inspection Kiosks (PIK) and the eDeclaration mobile application are now available at Halifax Stanfield International Airport. Halifax Stanfield is the fifth Canadian airport to launch the PIK technology in 2017.
The PIK strengthen border security as well as assist in reducing wait times. Halifax Stanfield is the fifth Canadian airport to launch the PIK technology in 2017.
"The implementation of this new technology demonstrates the Government of Canada's commitment to modernize the border experience in this digital age. The use of digital tools improves services to Canadians and international travellers, ensuring smooth and efficient airport experiences,” said the Honourable Ralph Goodale, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness.
PIK are next generation technology that offer self-service options for international air travellers arriving in Canada. PIK verify travel documents, allow travellers to complete an on-screen declaration, and confirm identity using facial authentication for all eligible international travellers arriving by air. Those looking to save more time can complete their declaration in advance using the CanBorder - eDeclaration mobile app, which will give them a quick response (QR) code to scan at a kiosk upon arrival.
To save even more time, Travellers are encouraged to download the free CanBorder - eDeclaration mobile app.
Halifax Stanfield is the busiest airport in Atlantic Canada, serving more than 335,000 inbound international travellers and 3.9 million domestic and international passengers in 2016.
