New Board for Skal Canada Appointed

At the recent Skål Canada fall meeting, held November 4th at the Holiday Inn Winnipeg Airport, a new board was elected, with Susan Webb from Skål Toronto elected president of Skål Canada for 2018.
In addition to Webb, the Skål Canada executive for 2018 comprises Paul Durand from Skål Edmonton, vice president, finance; Jean Pelletier from Skål Quebec City, vice president, administration; Marc Rheaume from Skål Calgary, vice president, membership (newly elected and replacing Webb); and Jean Francois Coté, International Skål Councillor (ISC)
It was also announced at the meeting that a new Skål club has been founded in Prince Edward Island, giving Skål a presence in every Canadian province with 17 clubs.
Congratulations were shared with the Skål Quebec City club as they earned the Skål International Club of the Year award at the recent world congress held in Hyderabad, India. This is the first time in Skål Canada history that one of its clubs has been presented with this prestigious award.
Lastly, a presentation was made to outgoing Skål Canada president Sean Buckland from Skål Halifax for his contribution to Skål Canada during his year as president, a year in which he visited all of Canada’s 17 clubs.
Skål was founded in 1934, as a means to promote global tourism and friendship, promoting the idea of “Doing business with Friends”. It is the largest organization of professional travel and tourism leaders in the world with over 17,000 members in almost 400 clubs located in 87 nations. Skål is the only international group uniting all branches of the travel and tourism industry and its members - industry managers and executives - meet at local, regional and international levels to discuss and pursue topics of common.
Skål has been in Canada for over 60 years and Skål Canada, the national organisation that both oversees and consults with local clubs, has the sixth largest national membership of the 87 countries around the world in which Skål International has clubs.
Membership in Skål is exclusively for senior management of tourism, hospitality and travel companies whilethe Young Skal program is a special membership category for tourism students or young professionals in the travel and tourism industry.
