Cycling tour operator Ciclismo Classico has rolled out a new, week-long cycling and hiking adventure through Nova Scotia.
“Quiet coastal roads, delicious local food, colorful fishing villages and fertile farmland combine to make Nova Scotia a hidden gem for cyclists,” said Ciclismo Classico Founder Lauren Hefferon. “There’s no bonding experience like hitting the pavement or a well-maintained trail and digging into scallops, fresh lobster and other fresh seafood at the end of the day.”
The itinerary has been developed to maximize travellers’ exposure to Nova Scotia’s under-appreciated beaches and marshland while also taking in quaint villages and beautiful vineyards. And of course there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy the local cuisine, including the province’s famed seafood offerings.
itinerary
Day 1: Halifax to Lunenburg
Upon arrival at Halifax Stanfield International Airport, guests will be escorted via van transfer to charming Lunenburg, located less than an hour from Nova Scotia’s capital.
Day 2: Lunenburg
A full loop ride in the morning will give visitors a great overview of this UNESCO World Heritage town. Once you have your bearings, you can then choose to golf, hike or kayak — all popular options. Crop by the maritime museum and when available, don’t miss a Canada’s famed Bluenose schooner.
Day 3: Lunenburg
The day’s itinerary is devoted to exploring the countryside around Lunenberg on a peaceful, loop ride. With its scenic countryside and seaside views, Lunenburg has frequently been nicknamed the prettiest small town in Canada.
Day 4: Wolfville
Not just the site of one of the region’s most famous universities, Wolfville is also home to some of the region’s finest hiking. The nearby vineyards and farms make this a popular draw for hiking and biking enthusiasts. Today's itinerary includes an easily manageable group hike.
Day 5: Wolfville/Grand Pre
Get ready to ride, because today’s excursion along stunning coastal views to the UNESCO World Heritage-designated Grand Pre is the longest journey of the entire trip.
Day 6: Lunenburg
For the return to Lunenberg, you’ll enjoy a brief hike from Hirtles Beach to Gaff Point along an ocean-weathered trail through the forest and along the pounding surf. Next, it's time to ride back to Lunenberg, but there’s also a shuttle for guests who prefer to get back early and spend their free time doing a little shopping in town.
Day 7: Farewell
After breakfast, shuttle service will return guests to Halifax where they can opt to extend their stay and explore Nova Scotia independently.
Perfect for intermediate level cyclists, the tour averages 29 miles per day. Tour dates are September 19-25, 2016 and rates start from U$ 2,795.
