Air Canada Vacations, which is set to launch its first Europe brochure in three years this spring, has revealed some of its newest itineraries today. After announcing it was planning to start island-hopping itineraries in Greece last week, the tour company is now sharing details about new tours in Ireland, Portugal and Spain.
Travellers have the option of experiencing each destination in a way that suits their needs and can choose from a number of ACV’s branded programs, including Urban Getaways+, Fly & Rail Vacations, Fly & Drive Vacations and Guided Tours.
For travellers interested in architecture and city attractions, ACV will offer Urban Getaways+ programs in Barcelona, Madrid, Lisbon and Porto. Experience Spanish culture and architecture at Barcelona’s Sagrada Familia cathedral or sight see at the Royal Palace, the Paseo del Prado and the Cibeles and Neptuno fountains in Madrid.
In Lisbon, the itinerary includes visits to the Belem quarter, the Jeronimos Monastery, the National Coach Museum and the Alfama and Rossio quarters. And in UNESCO World Heritage Site Porto, travellers can explore medieval alleyways and visit baroque churches and beaux-arts buildings.
In the Guided Tours program, itineraries include “Splendours of Spain,” where travellers are escorted by an expert guide through Madrid, Cordoba, Seville, Ronda and Granada. Also new, the “Best of Ireland” features a visit to Kerry’s seaside towns as well as stops at Boyne Valley, the tombs of Loughcrew and Blarney Castle.
With Fly & Drive Vacations, travellers can create their own itineraries as they drive along the stunning landscapes of Ireland. One program, the “Live like a Lord” itinerary offers a driving course through the pretty towns of Galway, Clifden and Kerry. Your time is your own but suggested stops include St. Patrick’s Cathedral, the 16th century Trinity College and the Cliffs of Moher. At night, kick your feet up as you call an ancient castle home for the night.
Highlights of the Fly & Rail Vacations include “Ireland: From City to Nature” and “Portugal: City and Coast.” In Ireland, tours start in Dublin followed by excursions to the surrounding countryside including a visit to Kilkenny. In Portugal, a rail journey from Lisbon to the Algarve region includes visits to Moorish and Roman ruins; the Monchique Mountains of Foia and Saint Anthony’s golden church.
