If the idea of trekking, cycling, rafting and camping your way through your next vacation sounds like the ideal way to explore foreign lands, your travel planning just got a little easier. G Adventures, a travel company known for it’s innovative, cultural explorations, has just rolled out a new series of active getaways in its G Adventures’ 2016 Active Brochure.
For 2016, some of the new adventures include:
Lares Trek – Among its new options, G Adventures is expanding its Machu Picchu offerings. Seasoned travellers looking for an alternative to hiking Peru’s Inca Trail may now opt to do the three-day Lares Trek instead.
“The scenery, which is as awe-inspiring as its famous counterpart, takes travellers off the beaten path and much closer to the indigenous Quechua people,” says Denise Harper, Director of Sales, Canada, G Adventures. “Starting in Ollantaytambo trekkers make their way through the Lares valley on an undulating path that rises higher than the Inca Trail. The Lares Trek also offers opportunities for insight into rural Andean life as the trail itself passes through very remote mountain communities.”
Along the Lares Trek travellers will find a number of G Adventures for Good projects, including a stay at a community-owned campsite featuring composting toilets, solar showers, and a solid-waste management system, which is the first of its kind in Peru.
Bhutan Trekking – Bhutan, known as the happiest country in the world, will leave travellers smiling as they trek the Himalayas. You'll trek along the sacred mountain passes of the Druk Path and visit some of the area’s most gorgeous temples and monasteries, including the noted Taktshang Monastery (Tiger's Nest). Rates start from C$ 3,499 per person for the 11-day journey.
Japan Hike, Bike & Kayak – In Japan, travellers can hike the UNESCO-listed Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route, following the same pathways that Kyoto's ancient emperors once used to prayed to natural deities. You’ll also cycle over the world’s largest series of suspension bridges, the Shimanami Kaido and kayak Miyajima Bay for an exploration Japan’s iconic floating Itsukushima Shrine. This 13-day trip, from Osaka to Tokyo, is priced from C$ 4,799 per person.
Cycle China – China’s backroads and scenic countryside is the focus of this five-day cycling journey. Saok in the same scenery that inspired countless poets and painters. Active travellers will also enjoy some opportunities for hiking in China’s rural regions. The trip also includes stops at the Great Wall of China, historic Tiananmen Square and sprawling Forbidden City. This 12-day trip, from Hong Kong to Beijing, starts from C$ 2,699 per person.
Patagonia Multisport – Unleash your inner adventurer in the Torres del Paine National Park, where you’ll enjoy trekking, cycling along the peaks of Patagonia and kayaking alongside the Grey Glacier. The 10-day journey from Santiago to Puerto Natales starts from C$ 3,389 per person.
