A three-year-old girl is lucky to be alive after falling from her family's stateroom balcony onto a deck approximately 15 feet below.
The accident occurred Friday on board Carnival Breeze as the toddler and her family were returning to Galveston towards the end of a seven-day Eastern Caribbean sailing and the girl was airlifted to a Tampa Hospital with facial injuries, KHOU reported. She is said to be in stable condition.
The ship’s crew alerted the US Coast Guard, and a helicopter crew arrived around 2:30 AM. Saturday to transport the child.
"I can confirm that yesterday afternoon on board the cruise ship Carnival Breeze, a three-year-old child fell from her stateroom balcony to an outdoor deck area one level below," a Carnival spokesperson said in a statement to KHOU. "She was in stable condition on board the vessel and was airlifted to Tampa as a precaution. Our CareTeam has been providing assistance and support to the family."
According to a now deleted Instagram post from a US Coast Guard pilot, the girl sustained injuries to her face. The incident did not affect the ship's scheduled itinerary.
