Shake Up at Air Canada Vacations

Are there turbulent times ahead for Air Canada Vacations? The airline has confirmed the departure of Eamonn Ferrin, the company’s president and CEO. Also leaving is VP of sales, Amir Younes.
In a statment, the Airline confirmed “that Eamonn Ferrin, president and COO, and Amr Younes, vice-president, sales, have elected to leave the organization to pursue other projects. We are currently working through these changes and will advise in due course when we have more to say, however we do not have any other comments at this time.”
The announcement comes just a little over a month after Air Canada released “strong financial results” for the first quarter.
"I am pleased to report strong financial results for the first quarter, as we continue to execute on our strategic initiatives including fleet modernization, international expansion and the growth of Air Canada rouge," said Calin Rovinescu, President and Chief Executive Officer. "Despite somewhat unsettled economic times in Canadian resource markets, a very competitive domestic pricing environment, and a continued weak Canadian dollar in the quarter, we were able to increase our revenue base, increase our unrestricted liquidity, increase net cash flow from operations, deliver on our ROIC target, produce a record EDITDAR level and take delivery of four new Boeing 787-9 aircraft while maintaining our adjusted net debt level and leverage ratio.
In the financial report, Air Canada stated Air Canada Vacations revenues at $363 million, a 9 percent increase, which was “primarily driven by growth in passenger volumes.”
Ferrin, a UK native, joined Air Canada Vacations in 2013 and is largely attributed with much of Air Canada’s growth during that period. Last May, he told the Toronto Star that part of the appeal of the new position was having a hands-on role in the organization's growth.
“...the plan at Air Canada to go from zero aircraft to 50, basically start a new airline in 2 to 3 years. And they wanted to double the business for Air Canada Vacations,” said Ferrin in the interview. “You don’t get too many opportunities in life like that. It was something I couldn’t turn down,”
Younnes joined ACV in 2014. Both have prior experience in Canadian travel companies, Ferrin with MyTravel and Younnes with Thomas Cook.
