No Electronics Ban But 'Enhanced Security Measures' for Canada

The Canadian Federal Government has made a long-awaited decision regarding implementing an electronics ban, and the answer is no…at least for now it seems.
Transport Canada announced yesterday that Canada has put in place ‘enhanced security measures’ on certain flights bound for Canada. However, the announcement stops short of sharing any information on what those measure are, including which countries, airlines or specific flights they apply to.
"I'm not in a position to tell you from where for obvious security reasons and I'm not in a position to tell you specifically the measures either.” said Marc Garneau, Canada’s Federal Transport Minister. “And you will understand, for security reasons we don't talk about these things...I will not tell you that information."
Garneau continued that following analysis, the government has “put in place additional measures” and that “the measures will make certain inbound flights safer for Canadians"
Last month, the U.S. announced a ban on any electronics larger than a standard smartphone in the cabin, and the U.K. followed suit days later.
At that time, Garneau said that the government was made “aware of a situation that we are analysing very carefully.” and that they planned to “have a fulsome discussion within government and look at the information that has been presented to us and then we will make a decision.”
But for now, Garneau said that Canada isn’t planning any ban of electronics and passengers are not expected to notice the new measures.
