Expedia Taps Data To Find Canadian Traveller Trends

Expedia Group says analysis of its search data has identified a few current trends among Canadian travellers that are of interest to agents seeking short- and medium-term bookings.
BEYOND BORDERS
Expedia says more Canadian travellers are looking internationally for their late summer trips this year with a 235% year on year increase in lodging searches in the months of August and September.
In total, Expedia says international travel searches account for a higher proportion of overall searches, a shift from a domestic focus during the same period last year. Searches for international flights also increased, up 70% for August and September. Expedia says this represents “both a relief and an opportunity” to travel advisors and tour operators looking to book Canadian travellers on overseas experiences this summer and into the fall.
STILL SOME HESITATION
Expedia Group data shows Canadian travellers aren’t planning ahead much at all – even less than last year. There’s a 15% increase in accommodation searches within a one-month search window. With that, Expedia says, it’s not too late to grab Canadian travellers’ attention for travel September and beyond.
BUNDLE UP
Expedia Group data shows Canadians are looking for package travel more than last year, with a 175% increase in searches for August and September dates for bundled travel products. Expedia says advisors, tour operators and Expedia partners can take advantage of the desire for packaged product when marketing directly to travellers.
