More bad weather is on the way for Toronto, according to Environment Canada, which has issued a weather alert for the city through Saturday.
The city, which is just finishing a “nightmarish” night, saw whiteout conditions on its roadways yesterday. At Toronto Pearson International Airport, some 60 flights were cancelled.
As of press time, today’s operations at Toronto Pearson are listed as normal, but the Environment Canada predicts an additional 5 to 10 centimetres of snowfall into Saturday morning.
According to the alert, the snow is “forecast to change to rain on Saturday as mild air pays a brief visit. The rain will then change back to some snow Saturday night as colder air returns in the wake of the low, with perhaps a couple more centimetres of snow possible.”
The alert predicts “deteriorating winter travel conditions” into Saturday.
At the Air Canada website, winter operation conditions are being predicted for the two Toronto airports, as well as Montreal and Ottawa, through Sunday.
The airline is allowing passengers to make alternate travel arrangements without penalties, according to a notice on the website.
On a brighter note, one Toronto resident who isn’t complaining about the snow is Da Mao, the giant Panda at the Toronto Zoo. This guy is perfectly happy to frolic in the white stuff.
