Ocean Hotels Group Barbados: Resorts For Every Type of Traveller
Hotel & Resort October 13, 2019

Three distinct, four-star hotels. One consistently great experience.
Ocean Hotels Group Barbados is a family-owned outfit that runs three properties on the beautiful south coast of Barbados; Sea Breeze Beach House, Ocean Two Resort and Residences, and the South Beach Hotel.
Sea Breeze, which I got to check out on a tour last year, is a stunning, all-inclusive property that was renovated late in 2017. Look for bold, bright colours and stylish details throughout the property, including splashy paintings of flying fish, turtle pillowcases and other nods to their Caribbean surroundings.
“It’s very Bajan,” Melissa Defreitas, sales and marketing coordinator for Ocean Hotels Group Barbados, said in a sit-down interview with TravelPulse Canada.
The hotel features tons of beautiful mahogany wood, which came from trees that were once on the property.
The culinary tradition at Sea Breeze also is a critical part of the hotel’s appeal. Michael Harrison, a talented chef who runs a great food tour on the island, is the executive chef at Sea Breeze.
“It’s international cuisine with a Caribbean flair,” Defreitas said. “We use local produce (Barbados has some great soil and they grow a lot more vegetables and fruit here than on some islands) and spices whenever we can, and of course there’s so much local seafood. In winter do a seafood buffet with amazing seafood and lobster.”
“Canadians seem to really love Sea Breeze and Ocean Two, especially,” she said. “We also find our guests get quite attached to our hotel workers. One couple recently had a wedding and invited one of our workers to the ceremony.”
There are 78 classic collection rooms and 44 luxury suites at the hotel, which fronts two wonderful beaches. One is best for water sports and the other geared more to relaxation, Defreitas said. They can even set up a romantic, candlelight dinner on the beach for you.
Ninety per cent of rooms have ocean views, and units range from classic, standard rooms to four-bedroom, luxury, ocean-front suites.

They are four bars, and six dining experiences, and there’s nightly entertainment and dancing under (or perhaps even with) the stars, depending on who’s in town. They also do weekly rum tastings.
Sea Breeze has three pools and two Jacuzzis, with full pool and beach service. Guests are spoiled by pool attendants who offer cold towels and fresh, icy sorbets.
Ocean Two Resort and Residences is a B&B for now, but it’s being converted into an all-inclusive property to match the preferences of today’s traveller, Defreitas said. They’re also adding 42 new suites, along with three restaurants, a new pool and a new spa.
Ocean Two offers “affordable luxury” and has beautifully-appointed suites with amazing ocean views, a marvellous beach, restaurants, a fitness centre, water sports, free pool and beach drink service and more. There’s even a rooftop patio and plunge pool, something you don’t see at a lot of Caribbean hotels.
“The décor is very chic and modern, with lots of marble,” Defreitas told TravelPulse Canada. “It’s a seven-year-old building that’s not a re-build. It’s very contemporary.”
There are 88 rooms at Ocean Two, which is very close to the popular St. Lawrence Gap area for dining, shopping and nightlife.
One fun tradition at Ocean Two is the Friday Night Roast and Lime, where they roast a breadfruit, cut it in half, and then fill it with tasty treats like lobster, pork or chicken curry.

All the rooms look great, but the hotel recommends their luxury ocean-front suites, with one or two bedrooms and “uninterrupted” ocean-front views. Not to mention large balconies, spacious living and dining areas and fully-equipped kitchens with top-of-the-line appliances.
There’s a lovely, secluded bay, and they have an on-site wedding and events team. It’s also a five-minute walk to St. Lawrence Gap.
The third piece of the Ocean Hotels Group Barbados puzzle is the South Beach Hotel, also on the south coast of the island. You’ll find a tidy 49 rooms in a B&B property that was renovated less than three years ago.
“There’s a very South Beach/Miami feel,” Defreitas said. “Lots of white.”
The hotel is a one-minute walk to Rockley Beach, one of the best in Barbados, but there’s also a great, on-site pool surrounded by plenty of cushioned loungers, as well as poolside food and drinks service.
All the rooms at South Beach have kitchen facilities and covered balconies overlooking the pool deck. Rooms are a mix of “chic studios and luxury suites.”
There’s also a fitness centre, on-site spa services and other amenities.
Guests are greeted with a cold towel and a welcome drink upon arrival, and there’s complimentary beach service.
Rates include breakfast but you can have lunch or dinner at their on-site Swagg Restaurant. The pool deck has happy hours, entertainment at night and a nice cocktail selection. If you want to try dining outside the hotel, you’re only a short walk to Champers, an excellent restaurant on the water I got to dine at a couple years ago.
All properties in the Ocean Hotels Group Barbados have free Wi-Fi, making it easy to stay in touch or post your social media photos.
