Group Germain Hotels, a Canadian hotelier that has publicly stated it is eyeing 20 hotels by 2020, has taken one step closer to that goal today, with the opening of the new Alt Hotel Ottawa.
"Group Germain Hotels is a proud Canadian company and as such, it's an extra-special honour to announce the opening our first hotel in Ottawa," states Jean-Yves Germain, Co-President of Group Germain Hotels. "It feels as though we are taking one giant step towards becoming the first independent Canadian hotelier to have properties from coast to coast. We are now even more energized to continue expanding until we achieve our goal of 20 hotels across the country by 2020."
This is the company’s seventh property to carry the Alt name, a brand which is becoming known throughout Canada for its blend of comfortable offerings and attention to stylize and design, while still maintaining an affordable price point.
"This dynamic accommodations and meeting space is a great addition to our city," says Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson. "Alt Hotel Ottawa is conveniently located in the city's downtown core and will offer a delightful new lodging alternative to visitors and tourists, particularly during the upcoming Ottawa 2017 celebrations."
A favorite component at Alt Hotels is the year-round nightly rate that always remains the same and does not fluctuate with the seasons. Which means book now if you’re planning on visiting the nation’s capital to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary next year. Consumers who wait are sure to miss out.
The 14-floor, 148-room Alt Hotel Ottawa, which was designed by LEMAYMICHAUD Architecture Design and Chmiel Architects, includes a number of personalized features.
"We are very much looking forward to welcoming guests from across the country at our first property in the nation's capital,” said Christiane Germain, Co-President of Group Germain Hotels. “As such, we selected the best design elements from each of our Alt Hotels in Canada and integrated original works of art to create the ultimate guest experience. Plus, this is only the beginning as the property will soon have company: we will be opening a new Le Germain Hotel here in Ottawa in 2017."
In the lobby area, guests will immediately be drawn to the hotel’s signature art installation, Altexpo, a photographic montage of images from Canadian photographer and Instagrammer Jean-François Frenette. Created using 9000 photographs, the mural includes images of famous Canadian landscapes as well as photos of the nation’s hidden treasures. Altexpo also features photos by Ottawa-based Instagrammers Zara Ansar, Christopher Ryan, Julia Leal and Katie Hession. An attached LCD screen displays real-time photos snapped by visitors using the #Altexpo hashtag on Instagram.
Some guest rooms also feature interactive art installation on their windows. The feature, called "Up Down," created by Canadian design studio Daily Tous les Jours, encourages guests to touch their windows to become part of the artistic experience. The guest rooms also include ultra-comfortable beds and spa-inspired bathrooms.
The hotel also features the Altcetera Café, which serves a variety of simple, delicious food prepared by local caterer Epicuria. Guests can enjoy a bite in the lobby or take their items to go. Espressos, lattes and teas by DAVIDsTEA are also available.
Alt Hotel Ottawa also features a fitness room as well as nearly 4000 square feet of meeting space featuring the newest technology. Alt Hotel Ottawa also incorporated a number of eco-responsible components into its design, including geothermal heating and cooling, energy-efficient lighting in all rooms and a heat recovery system.
