You don’t have to wait for spring to stop and smell the flowers because in the following six indoor gardens, their floral displays are always in bloom. So when winter comes knockin or foliage starts to turn brown and fall to the ground, venture inside of these horticulture wonders to enjoy the aromas and beauty of everlasting spring.
England: Eden Project
Contrary to what your mind might be telling you, The Eden Project isn’t the Garden of Eden’s secret hiding place, although the huge translucent domes covering its lush gardens may covey a different message.
In fact, as the largest indoor gardens on the planet (until Saudi Arabia’s International Gardens makes its grand debut), it may appear as though mankind has somehow created a replica of the biblical forest. Especially since thousands upon thousands of exotic Mediterranean and tropical plants lure visitors indoors with a strong aroma and such vibrant flowers lining paved trails. Although traveling to the Eden Project is a journey itself, once you’re amid sweet-smelling flora galore you’ll see why spring is a never-ending season here.
Japan: Yumenoshima Tropical Greenhouse Dome
It is quite hard to believe that the area surrounding the Yumenoshima Tropical Greenhouse was once a filthy landfill. However, in 1972 its ground-dumping days came to a complete stop after a decision was made to transform it into something beautiful. What came out of that decision was Yumenoshima, a man-made island, which is home to the Yumenoshima Tropical Greenhouse Dome.
Consisting of three domes that are drenched in semitropical and tropical plants, there is never a dull moment as each step into these contained forests are met with striking plants emulating different sizes and bold colors. Not only are visitors in awe of Yumenoshima Tropical Greenhouse Dome’s breathtaking vegetation, but there is also a waterfall located in A Dome that remains a sparkling sensation when most of the world’s natural fountains have frozen over.
Chicago: The Semitropical Greenhouse
There’s no need to squint your eyes once you’re in full view of the Semitropical Greenhouse because it sits comfortably inside of a glass structure. But that doesn’t stop its array of beautiful flowers from shining brightly.
The Semitropical Greenhouse is one of the few indoor greenhouses housed at the Chicago Botanic Garden, which is so exotic even earth’s rarest plants call it home. And with such fragranced flowers scenting the atmosphere, you may even be compelled to take a huge bite out of their flowery goodness, and in some instances you actually can.
Las Vegas: Bellagio Conservatory
When the infamous Las Vegas strip becomes a bit too overwhelming, there’s one place that promises to be as peaceful as it is spectacular. Leave it up to the ultra-chic Bellagio to create a wonderful masterpiece made out of flowers that is just as memorable as the hotel itself.
The Bellagio Conservatory glistens from about 55 feet in the air, and offers much more than a place to stop and smell the flowers. Every detail is meticulously decorated with nature to create a flowery oasis perfect for a romantic stroll. This horticultural attraction becomes more intensified by spotlights purposefully used to highlight their every detail. No visit promises to be the same since the Bellagio Conservatory’s grand floral display changes constantly.
Singapore: Gardens by the Bay
Through shine or rain, Singapore’s award-winning garden continues to be a beloved spot for tourists and locals alike. That’s because every inch of this attraction is filled with natural beauty sheltered by two conservatories that drown out the bustle of the city. Offering a sense of comfort amid tropical palm trees and opulent greens while facing the Marina Reservoir, the Gardens of the Bay is great destination for enjoying the outdoors inside even in Singnapore's odd climate.
From the largest waterfront garden, which is Bay South to the picnic areas of Bay East, its 101 hectares are met with lush surprises that require hours of exploration. And at night the Gardens of the Bay offers a dazzling show in the Garden Rhapsody with its florets accentuated by vibrant outdoorsy sounds and lights.
Calgary: Devonian Gardens
Why wait for spring to arrive when you can find shade under hundreds of trees and thousands of shrubs lining quaint pathways?
The Devonian Gardens has recently undergone a facelift, and has reopened with a façade dominated by a tropical ambiance. Most likely you’ll forget you are indoors by the way the garden’s cool features create such spacious grounds to create a one-of-kind indoor jungle. As one of the world’s greatest floral spectacles, many visitors are compelled to make an appearance regardless of the weather.
