Barrett & Carlysle Travel Convicted For Unregistered Selling In Ontario
Features & Advice Bruce Parkinson May 16, 2022

After being charged by the Travel Industry Council of Ontario (TICO) and pleading guilty on all counts, Barrett & Carlysle Travel and Tanja Schneider-Steinbock have been convicted on a total of 42 charges.
Barrett & Carlysle Travel was convicted of 40 counts of selling travel services without being registered. Tanja Schneider-Steinbock, an officer and director of the company and also the manager on record, was convicted of one count of selling travel services without being registered and one count of being an officer or director and failing to take reasonable care to prevent the corporation from committing an offence.
The court found that Barrett & Carlysle Travel allowed its TICO registration to lapse on December 31, 2020, after failing to submit a renewal application. TICO then actively engaged Barrett & Carlysle Travel on the matter. This included several exchanges between TICO and Tanja Schneider-Steinbock and an extension to come into compliance. Barrett & Carlysle Travel did not submit any documentation to TICO to bring itself into compliance nor did it submit a renewal application.
Despite numerous warnings, Barrett & Carlysle Travel and Tanja Schneider-Steinbock continued to sell travel without registration and advertise their services via the internet and social media.
Both Barrett & Carlysle Travel and Tanja Schneider-Steinbock have been sentenced in Court to a two-year probation and they are prohibited from applying for or engaging in activities as a registered Travel Agent, as defined in the Travel Industry Act, 2002.
The Court also ordered Barrett & Carlysle Travel to pay a fine of $3,750, including a victim surcharge.
