Features & Advice Cherese Weekes September 21, 2014

Looking for a bit of romance to spice up your travels? Then you’ll want to visit the following romantic spots designed to sweep your mate off their feet. There’s no need to wait until Valentine’s Day to express your love with a boring box of chocolate or flowers, when you can completely wow them by taking a journey to these five romantic spots.
Paris, France: I Love You: The Wall
It seems like yesterday you were scribbling your crush’s name on your notebook. Or sending a note across the classroom that required your high school sweetheart to confirm her affections for you by circling yes, no or maybe. Your days of feeling like a giddy adolescent in love don’t have to stop once you’ve left your school days behind.
This is because I Love You: The Wall in Paris is a declaration of love with the words “I love you” written all over the 40-meter square canvas in hundreds of different languages. The French landmark not only connects lovers on a universal level, it allows them to embrace the heartfelt emotion echoing off the wall. Sure, Paris is dubbed the City of Love, but knowing where its most romantic spots are makes all the difference when impressing your mate.
China: Love Locks on Mt. Huangshan
Thinking about taking your spouse to China for a passionate getaway? Well you might want to head to the hills of Mount Huangshan for your relationship to be eternally blessed. In order to live a lifetime of bliss, couples must buy a padlock before climbing the mountain’s monolithic cliffs.
Once they have reached one of the mountain’s bridges, they are required to latch their lock onto it and then throw the keys in the valley below. This significant token of love binds the couple together forever, especially since the Chinese god known as Yue Lao is expected to bestow his blessing. Nevertheless, this glorious mountainside is known to be China’s finest. But even if you are not swayed by superstitions, the breathtaking views of Mt. Huangshan are certainly worth the climb.
Philadelphia, PA: LOVE Park
Philadelphia may be the ‘City of Brotherly Love’ but it’s the LOVE Park, which is formally known as the John F. Kennedy Plaza, that makes it a popular romantic destination as well. This is due to the red LOVE sculpture that sits in the heart of the plaza, catching the eye of lovers drawn to this bold representation of affection.
Behind the sign is a fountain that ejects a tower of water in the background, which contributes to LOVE Park’s intimate vibe. Thinking of getting engaged? This spot is well-known for its magical ambiance; thus proving that in the midst of Philadelphia’s soaring skyscrapers it is quite easy to be bitten by the love bug.
Florida: St. Augustine’s Love Trees
Thanks to Florida’s tropical weather, couples can visit the town of St. Augustine in search for a bit of passion. But we’re not talking about cuddling on the beach or being locked away in a cozy suite. We’re talking about snuggling under its famous “love trees,” which appear to be canoodling themselves by the way different species are seen lapped around and on each other in a giant tree hug.
Many believe that once a “love tree” is spotted, a kiss should be shared between couples to ensure a long life together. And with a handful of them dotted along St. Augustine’s landscape, stumbling on a couple indulged in an intimate embrace is a scene that is all too familiar under its “love trees.”
