While winter is settling a new cold front over Montreal, folks from the Dominican Republic are helping heat things up.
A few lucky commuters at the corner of Peel Street and René Lévesque Boulevard enjoyed a taste of the Caribbean before heading to work yesterday. The lucky commuters were greeted by a bus stop that had transformed itself into a mini-tropical paradise, complete with live merengue dancers from the Dominican Republic, who braved the cold to bring a taste of the tropics to Quebec.
Passersby were encouraged to join in the fun, and to quite literally dance in the streets. They were also invited to enter to win a trip for two to the popular Caribbean nation.
The colorful costumes and lively music were a not-so-subtle reminder that the Dominican Republic is one of the most popular vacation destinations for Canadian travellers.
“Each year, we send more than 760,000 visitors from Canada to our country,” said Cosette Garcia, Director of the Dominican Republic Tourist Board in Montreal. “There seems to be a genuine affinity between our people, a natural warmth that we share. So the idea of this promotion – the dancers, the music – is to bring some Dominican sun here to warm at least the hearts of Montrealers until they can come and visit us again.”
The promotion is supported in part by Québecor Media Affichage. To enter to win a trip for two to the Dominican Republic, visit www.vivapuntacana.ca.
