A galaxy far, far away will soon be getting a little closer.
In case you missed it, Walt Disney Company Chairman and CEO Bob Iger announced that all-new "Star Wars" themed lands will be coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida and Disneyland in California sometime in the future.
The ambitious plan includes all-new, 14-acre expansions at each park with experiences designed to evoke the feeling of visiting a wild space outpost where "Star Wars" characters come to life.
“We are creating a jaw-dropping new world that represents our largest single themed land expansion ever,” said Iger via the Disney Parks blog. “These new lands at Disneyland and Walt Disney World will transport guests to a whole new 'Star Wars' planet, including an epic 'Star Wars' adventure that puts you in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.”
With the imminent launch of the movie “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” on Dec. 18, Disney has made more Star Wars available for fans.
Earlier this month, Disney's Hollywood Studios welcomed "Star Wars" Launch Bay where guests can interact with "Star Wars" characters, see iconic "Star Wars" props and murals and watch a short film in the Launch Bay Theatre. Other Launch Bay attractions include “The Cantina” restaurant and a game center, art gallery and shop which all highlight the “Star Wars” films.
Disney has also overhauled its Star Tours — The Adventure Continues high-speed attraction, which now includes updated scenes based upon “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
Here's a sneak peek at the new Starspeeder 1000 Experience:
A "Star Wars"-themed fireworks show, “Symphony in The Stars: A Galactic Spectacular” will debut Dec. 18. Sure to be a crowd pleaser are several new related accessories, including a light-up Mickey Ear Hat, Minnie Mouse Headband, Mickey Mouse Glove and the Sorcerer Mickey Wand, which have all been programmed to light up at key moments during several evening attractions. Starting Jan. 5, an accompanying Dessert Party, starring the likes of Darth Vader cupcakes, will also be available.
