Niagara Falls to 'Go Green' for St. Patrick’s Day
Destination & Tourism Monica Poling March 15, 2017

If you’re looking for the luck of the Irish this St. Patrick’s Day, be sure to check out Niagara Falls on Friday evening. The Niagara Falls Illumination Board has announced that it will light up the Falls in emerald green for 15 minutes at the top of every hour from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., in celebration of all things Irish.
The colourful display is courtesy of a renewed partnership between the Board and Tourism Ireland’s “Global Greening” campaign.
Tourism Ireland’s “Global Greening” campaign runs worldwide and turns numerous icons green on St. Patrick's Day, including the likes of the Empire State Building, the Colosseum in Rome, the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, Nelson’s Column in London and the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
For the Niagara Falls Illumination Board, the partnership provides the opportunity to showcase an enhanced LED lighting technology which was introduced last December.
The Niagara Falls Illumination Board was established in 1925 and comprised of representatives from the City of Niagara Falls Ontario; City of Niagara Falls, New York; Ontario Power Generation Inc.; New York Power Authority; New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation; and The Niagara Parks Commission. The Illumination Board maintains (and finances) the nightly illumination of the Horseshoe and American Falls.
