Dominican Republic Turns up the Heat in Toronto on Blue Monday
Destination & Tourism Monica Poling January 13, 2017

Are sleet, snow and broken resolutions bringing you down on Blue Monday, January 16?
Then head on over to Yonge-Dundas Square, where 40 Merengue dancers will help you chase away the blues. The “Beat the Winter Blues” party, co-hosted by the Dominican Republic, CBC and Sunwing, will feature live dancers and a chance to win a trip to Punta Cana.
The event, emceed by CBC Music’s own Julia Nesrallah, will run from 12-1 p.m. and is free of charge to the public.
And be sure to warm up your Instagram account, as life-sized postcards of the DR will make the perfect photo op. Also, virtual reality stations inside a heated tent will allow you to feel as if you’re almost on an island getaway.
If you need a lift to get to Yonge-Dundas Square, be sure to hail a Co-op Taxi, as drivers across the GTA will bear Dominican Republic advertising and be playing Merengue music for their customers. People hailing a Co-op cab will also receive a $10 coupon toward a future taxi ride.
Can’t attend? You can enter another drawing for a trip to Punta Cana through February 26, 2017, at www.CBC.ca/BeatTheBlues.
