Destination Canada and WestJet have announced a global partnership that will help market Canada around the world and bring more travellers to Canada. Through the partnership, Destination Canada and WestJet will align marketing strategies in shared international markets, combining WestJet's continuing expansion of air access with Destination Canada's marketing efforts, to grow Canada's tourism industry.
"I've had the privilege to meet many amazing tourism business owners from coast to coast to coast.” said the Honourable Bardish Chagger, leader of the Government in the House of Commons and minister of Small Business and Tourism. “These hard-working Canadians shape our thriving tourism industry and help make us a top destination in the world. Partnerships like the one announced today, will help welcome even more travellers to Canada, so they can enjoy the world-class tourism experiences our country offers."
Almost 20 million travellers came to Canada last year," said David Goldstein, Destination Canada's President and CEO. "We're excited to work with WestJet to build on this success and expand our joint marketing efforts."
WestJet currently serves three of the countries in which Destination Canada markets Canada; Mexico, the UK and the USA, but is posed to expand their international service with the announcement that they intend to purchase up to 20 Boeing 787-900 aircraft.
"WestJet is strategically expanding its network to more international destinations," said Gregg Saretsky, WestJet President and CEO. "We look forward to working with Destination Canada to bring more travellers to visit our great country on Canada's low fare leader."
