Canada in an Instant: Fogo Island

Remote, off-the-radar Fogo Island, frequently called one of the four corners of the Earth, is located in a gloriously scenic zone known as Iceberg Alley. While there’s not necessarily a bad time to visit, the area is particularly lovely in late spring or early summer, when the massive 10,000-year old icebergs float by.
These icebergs are definitely more than meets the eye. The ice that is seen is only 10 per cent of the entire iceberg, the rest remains hidden below the water. It is this kind of iceberg that brought down the Titanic—just 600 kilometres off the shores of Newfoundland.
But Fogo Island is about much more than icebergs. The local people are known for their hospitality—after all it was nearby Gander that welcomed more than 6,000 stranded air passengers on 9/11.
Ready to explore? We've gathered some stunning images from local instagrammers and visiting photographers that might have you thinking about an Atlantic getaway.
