TravelPulse Canada is on location in Montego Bay, Jamaica at the United Nations World Tourism Organization Conference (UNWTO).
In this exclusive interview, TravelPulse Canada had the opportunity to go 1-2-1 with the Honourable Edmund Bartlett, minister of tourism, for Jamaica. We gained some insight as to what the objective of this initiative is and how one Caribbean, innovation, and becoming a disrupter could very well pave the way for unpretentious growth.
"We are very very pleased to see the response the global community has given to the efforts to have Jamaica be the centre for the next three days of global deliberations on matters pertaining to sustainability and the creation of jobs and growth for destinations that are driven by tourism." Bartlett told TravelPulse Canada. "We feel that today's show, which really was a discussion on the future of..tourism in the Caribbean, we thought might not have interested [the] world, but 906 people came out today. And we have our registration, which is unbelievable, 1,457, which is perhaps the largest [UNWTO] conference registration, that I certainly have known of and the UNWTO is telling me it's the largest they've ever had in the world."
The Global Conference on Jobs and Inclusive Growth: Partnerships for Sustainable Tourism, being jointly held by the Government of Jamaica, World Bank Group and Inter-American Development Bank, runs from November 27-30, 2017, at the Montego Bay Convention Centre.
It brings together the key stakeholders and leaders of the tourism industry including tourism boards, hotel and hospitality groups, and cruise lines, alongside governments, donours, international development and finance organizations, to design and coordinate an international road map and foster collaborative relationships for inclusive economic and social development via tourism.
