Scenic and Emerald Waterways Introduce Deposit Protection Plan
Cruise Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours Brian Simpson May 18, 2017

Scenic Luxury Cruises and Emerald Waterways, both part of the Scenic family of brands, are now offering cruise travellers the ability to reallocate the deposit placed on a cruise booking with their newly launched Deposit Protection Plan. When combined with the brands’ one-of-a-kind River Cruise Travel Guarantee, guests are protected against many of the things that a traveller may feel makes booking a vacation far in advance, less appealing.
Deposits on both Scenic and Emerald Waterways are currently non-refundable and non-transferable, but customers who purchase Scenic and Emerald’s Deposit Protection Plan are able to cancel or change a cruise and reallocate this deposit toward a future sailing. The cost is $125 CA per person for river cruises and $250 CA per person for sailing on Scenic Eclipse, the world’s first Discovery Yacht, which launches in 2018. The Deposit Protection Plan must be purchased at the time the deposit is due, and guests must rebook their new cruise within 24 months of cancellation. It is non-transferable and covers cruise and tour deposits only, but does not cover deposits placed on air.
Both brands also offer the River Cruise Travel Guarantee, which covers every guest, free-of-charge, on the commencement of their cruise for any delays or cancellations due to weather, natural disasters, mechanical breakdowns or labor strikes. For some cruise lines, a credit is offered toward a future trip, but Scenic and Emerald’s approved claimants receive a direct monetary refund, up to $1,000 CA ($750 US) per day to a maximum of seven days or $7,000 CA ($5,250 US) per guest.
Scenic has been offering all-inclusive escorted tours in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, the Americas and elsewhere for 30 years and is the parent company of two river cruise lines – Scenic and Emerald Waterways – who hold a combined fleet of 22 ships in 2017. On August 31, 2018, Scenic will launch Scenic Eclipse, the World’s First Discovery Yacht, with itineraries including the Americas, Antarctica, Europe & the Mediterranean, and the Arctic & Fjords.
