Mexico based developer of luxury resorts in Latin America Grupo Vidanta, has acquired the former Voyager cruise ship from (now-bankrupt) All Leisure Group and plans are the vessel will be completely refurbished and ready for sailing out of Mexico and Latin America in Spring 2018.
According to a report in Cruise Industry News, the ship was sent to Cadiz, Spain for refurbishment and refit at Navantia, and is part of the company’s expansion into the cruise portfolio. Built in the 1990s with the capacity for 540 passengers, the renamed - Vidanta Alegria, will offer Mexico and Latin America sailings. There is speculation that additional vessels are in the company’s future.
Grupo Vidanta is also the group behind the eagerly anticipated Cirque du Soleil theme park, scheduled to debut in 2018 and heavily involved in resort and development in Mexico.
All Leisure Group was the owner of Swan Hellenic and Voyages of Discovery.
