WestJet is flying high this summer with the launch of several new flights which widen the airline’s connections to the United States as well as increasing domestic connectivity.
Into the United States, the airline is launching a brand new, non-stop route between Calgary International Airport (YYC) and Metropolitan Nashville Airport (BNA) in Tennessee. This is Nashville’s second service to Canada, and WestJet will be the first Canadian carrier to offer non-stop service between Cow Town and Music City USA. The route, which will operate twice-weekly, commences on May 4.
"Today's announcement marks Nashville's first non-stop flight to Calgary and our second non-stop Canadian destination," said Rob Wigington, president and CEO of the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority. "WestJet started direct-to-Toronto service less than a year ago, and we're excited they've decided to bring even more international service to Nashville."
WestJet first started flying to Nashville in 2016 from Toronto; these flights currently depart six times per week on WestJet Encore. Flights from Calgary to Nashville will be operated on WestJet's Boeing 737 aircraft. Introductory fares starting from CAD $214.77 one way, are available through February 6, 2017.
In Atlantic Canada, WestJet has said it is updating the relationship status of Gander, N.L. and Halifax, N.S., to “connecting soon.” The airline is bringing back its Halifax to Gander flights this summer, starting April 30. The flight will operate daily on a year-round schedule.
"We are pleased WestJet will offer service to Gander this summer," says Joyce Carter, Halifax International Airport Authority President and CEO. "This daily service strengthens the connections within Atlantic Canada, providing our passengers with additional options and demonstrates WestJet's confidence in our region."
In total, WestJet operates 31 non-stop routes in Atlantic Canada, serving 21 different destinations. Introductory pricing between the two airports is available from $164.99, when booked by Feb6, 2017.
In Western Canada, Westjet will offer seasonal service, four times per week, between Kelowna (YLW) and Winnipeg (YWG). Flights commence on May 29th and run through September 2017.
“We’re very happy to announce this much-anticipated route,” said Sam Samaddar, YLW Airport director. “Our partnership with Winnipeg’s Richardson International Airport is a wonderful opportunity for Okanagan residents to explore Winnipeg and Central Canada.”
The flight will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, departing at 12:15 p.m. from YLW, on a 114-seat Boeing 737-600.
