WestJet and Air Canada were the only travel companies named in Indeed.com’s list of the top 25 employers in Canada, which also includes General Motors, TELUS, National Defence and Canadian Armed Forces, and all five of Canada’s top banks.
The results from Indeed were based on an analysis of their database of over 600,000 employee reviews collected from across Canada.
"Company reviews can greatly impact a job seeker's decision on where they apply," said Jodi Kasten, managing director at Indeed Canada. "The companies that made our Best Places to Work in Canada list offer an exemplary employee experience, receiving praise for their commitment to offering a great culture, work-life balance and great pay & benefits among many other factors."
WestJet came in at number six on the list, averaging an employee star rating on the site of 4.2, with Culture rating the highest in Indeed’s five ratings categories. Other categories include Work/Life Balance, Salary/Benefits, Job Security/Advancement, and Management.
"Excellent place to work with good people and a great culture.” reads one review on Indeed.com from a Toronto-based WestJet maintenance employee “WestJet takes care of its people which in turn takes care of its guests. Best in Aviation."
"When WestJet talks about success we talk about things like culture, cost and competitive spirit, but the word that defines us most is care," said Mark Porter, WestJet executive vice president, people and culture. "Being deliberate about our caring culture and how we develop it is critical to our success. Being considered one of the top places to work in Canada is an honour, especially because it is determined by past and current employees."
Air Canada, meanwhile, came in at number 11 on the list, with an average star rating of 3.9. Work/Life Balance and Culture ranked highest.
One reviewer on Indeed, an Air Canada Supervisor in Toronto, stated ”The Culture at Air Canada is top notch. They truly care about their employees, and strive to set you up for success. A strong work/life balance is encouraged, and you get to travel around the world!”
"Air Canada continues to focus on corporate culture as one of our four key strategic pillars, making Air Canada an organization that people want to invest in, passengers want to fly, and where people want to work." said Duncan Bureau, Air Canada's vice president of global sales. "This has been recognized by Waterstone Capital, who awarded Air Canada for having one of the Most Admired Corporate Cultures in Canada and along with the indeed.com survey results, reinforce Air Canada as being one of our country's most attractive employers. It truly is one of the best places in Canada to work."
