A new Air Canada flight will be making its way to San Antonio this summer. On May 1, 2017, Air Canada will inaugurate daily service between San Antonio and Toronto. San Antonio, which hosts some 34 million visitors a year, counts Canada among its top international leisure market.
“Daily nonstop service to and from San Antonio and Toronto provides a great opportunity for both cities,” said San Antonio Mayor Ivy R. Taylor. “With San Antonio celebrating its Tricentennial in 2018, we hope Canadians take advantage of the flights to come see everything we have to offer, too.”
The city, which just earned the top spot on Travel + Leisure’s 2016 “America’s Friendliest Cities” list, is known for its history and culture as well as its growing arts and culinary scene. Among its most-known attractions are the world-famous Alamo, the 24-km-long River Walk, and Pearl, a historic brewery that has been transformed shopping, dining and entertainment complex.
The city is home to five Spanish colonial missions, including the Alamo, which is the only World Heritage Site in Texas. “We are delighted to bring the Maple Leaf to San Antonio this year!” said Lisa Pierce, Senior Director for USA Sales & Market Development at Air Canada.
Air Canada will fly an Embraer E175, a narrow-body, medium-range craft. The plane includes nine business-class seats and 64 economy seats.
“Canada has long been an important market for the city’s economic development efforts,” said San Antonio City Manager Sheryl Sculley. “Toronto is a global business centre, which is especially significant for our Aerospace, Bioscience, Technology and New Energy sectors.”
