Operational Update from WestJet
Airlines & Airports Air Canada Catherine Maisonneuve July 04, 2022

WestJet has followed Air Canada capacity cuts by announcing a reduction in its flights this summer, due to a rapid resumption of travel and a major labor shortage which is paralyzing the country's airports. On Monday, the airline released an operational update regarding flights since that announcement was made last Thursday.
The airline is also reminding agents who are enquiring on behalf of a client to please include the following information to ensure a timely investigation into the matter:
- Guest PNR (six digit alpha code, ex : TPLYRT)
- Baggage claim file number
Over the Canada Day long weekend, the following changes were made to the WestJet flight schedule:
- Friday, July 1 – 38 cancellations / 575 planned flights
- Saturday, July 2 – 12 cancellations / 498 planned flights
- Sunday, July 3 – Two cancellations for unscheduled maintenance / 586 planned flights
- Monday, July 5 – Three cancellations for unscheduled maintenance / 575 planned flights
- Tuesday, July 6 – Zero cancellations / 534 planned flights
WestJet says it has proactively cut flights to airports including Toronto Pearson, which has been the epicentre of delayed and cancelled flights in Canada. The airline says it has hired more than 1,000 new employees and that "staff hiring continues across multiple departments.”
