The holiday season doesn’t seem to be a time of rest for Canadian airports and airlines, which have introduced a number of new flights this week.
Air Canada Service from Toronto to Port of Spain, Trinidad
Yesterday, Air Canada commenced new service to the Caribbean with its inaugural year-round flight between Toronto and Trinidad. The non-stop flight, which will be operated by Air Canada Rouge will be offered twice-weekly.
"Air Canada is very pleased to inaugurate this new, year-round service between Toronto and Port of Spain as part of our ongoing global expansion. In addition to being a popular vacation destination for Canadians, Canada and Trinidad and Tobago have longstanding ties, with many Canadians of Trinidadian descent visiting friends and relatives, and there are also substantial business ties. This new service will connect conveniently with our extensive domestic and international network through our Toronto-Pearson global hub," said Benjamin Smith, president, Passenger Airlines at Air Canada.
Air Canada Service from Montreal to San Juan, Puerto Rico
Earlier this week, Air Canada also launched service to San Juan, Puerto Rico from Montreal. The weekly flights will operate on a seasonal basis, with departures every Saturday. The flights will operate through April 22, 2017.
"This new route from Montreal will make it easier for customers to travel to Puerto Rico from eastern Canada and complements our existing twice-weekly services between Toronto and San Juan. It also strengthens Air Canada's Montreal hub, which is playing a significant strategic role in our ongoing global expansion. Our capacity in Montreal is up nearly 20 per cent over the last two years and in the past year alone we have launched or announced 13 new destinations from the city, including Shanghai, Algiers, Lyon, and Marseille," said Benjamin Smith, President, Passenger Airlines at Air Canada. www.aircanada.com

Air Transat now offers five destinations in the Dominican Republic, including La Romana, Puerto Plata, Punta Cana, Santo Domingo and Semana. www.transat.com
China Eastern Service to Nanjing from Vancouver
Yesterday China Eastern commenced service to Nanjing, China from Vancouver International Airport. The new service will operate three times per week, year-round to Nanjing Lukou International Airport (NKG) and is Canada’s only direct service to Nanjing.
"We want to thank our long-standing partner, China Eastern, for choosing YVR to introduce this new connection between Vancouver and Nanjing, a renowned Chinese historical epicentre and a key economic hub," said Craig Richmond, YVR's President & CEO. "This is another exciting first for YVR—offering passengers the only non-stop access to Nanjing in all of Canada."
China Eastern Airlines has had an operation at YVR ever since it launched daily service to Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) in 2004. In 2015, the airline added direct service to Kunming. www.yvr.ca
