A 57-year old man from Hamilton, Ontario was arrested and appeared in court today. John Svab was charged with endangering the safety of an aircraft, aggravated assault, and uttering death threats, after assaulting an Air Canada Rouge flight attendant.
According to CBC News, AC1910, an Air Canada Rouge flight from Toronto to Budapest, was forced to turn around just past Montreal "due to an unruly passenger" an airline spokesperson said.
The aircraft, an Air Canada Rouge 767 with 267 passengers and eight crew members, landed safely and the man was arrested by Peel Regional Police.
“At around 12:30 a.m., Peel police received a call ‘for a flight returning back to Toronto with an irate passenger and a flight attendant who was assaulted,’” Peel Regional Police spokesperson Const. Mark Fischer said. “When we attended the scene, we learned that the passenger was unruly, and he has since been arrested and taken into custody for assault.”
The female flight attendant suffered minor injuries and was treated by airport paramedics at the scene. Conflicting reports indicate that the flight attendant may have also been treated at the hospital.
