A new Mexican tour operator is entering the Canadian market and will compete with the Sunwing, Transat and Air Canada Vacations of this world. Beginning in July 2019, the Mexican airline, Interjet, will start selling vacation packages to Mexico and Canada, TravelPulse Canada was told exclusively during IPW, held June 1-5 in Anaheim, California.
The new packages will include flights, hotels and attractions and will be available from Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver to Cancun and Mexico City.
"We are already selling flight and hotel packages on our website through a third-party booking platform, except that now we are developing our own booking platform, which will allow us to 'to offer our customers holiday packages including flights, hotels and attractions,' explained Interjet Vacations Managing Director, Vincent Minnelli, in an interview.
"Our main priority is to bring tourists to Mexico. We also want Mexicans to travel to Canada through our vacation packages. People often do not go to a place because they realize that they have to book their own hotel, flight and activities themselves. Since they do not know what to do or where to go once they get to a destination, they leave the idea of visiting it. The launch of these all-inclusive vacation packages will facilitate travel between the two countries and encourage more Mexicans to visit Canada and more Canadians to visit Mexico. "
"Interjet Vacations will offer commissions to travel agents," said Minnelli, adding that the company will offer very competitive prices.
Interjet began offering direct flights from Toronto and Montreal to Mexico City and Cancun in July 2017. The company explained that due to the abolition of the entry visa requirement for Mexicans making it to Canada, it had facilitated the launch of these flights.
Stay tuned for updates.
