The holiday carrier Condor and their Wings of Help program are supporting areas affected by the hurricanes in the Caribbean last fall.
After the hurricanes Irma and Maria caused considerable damage in the Caribbean last September, Condor supported the area with free additional luggage for relief and donations supplies on its flights.
On Jan. 20 a Boeing 767 from Condor took off with special cargo to Puerto Rico. Wings of Help is organizing the transport of decommissioned laptop computers in cooperation with the holiday Carrier as well as two pallets pre-filled with soccer boots, jerseys and other donations that benefit a school in Puerto Rico. On Dec. 16 of last year Wings of Help and Condor flew a power generator to San Juan (Puerto Rico) to help the local people to find their way back into everyday life.
Hurricane Maria devastated large parts of Puerto Rico in the autumn of last year. In addition to the uncounted casualties, hundreds of thousands of people had to be evacuated from their households. It was the strongest hurricane on the Caribbean island in the last 85 years.
Condor also helped Cuba´s residents after heavy hurricane Irma reached the island last September. Between mid-September and December, Condor´s passengers received 20 additional kilograms of free donation luggage to Havana, Holguin or Varadero destinations to bring urgently needed goods to the region. Together we will be able to send almost 16 tons of relief supplies to the affected areas in Cuba within the next four months.
“We are very happy that countless passengers have approached us and taken advantage of the possibility of free of charge carrying donations,” said Christiane Schneider, Referent Marketing and Corporate Social Responsibility at Condor. “Together we can send nearly 16 tons of relief supplies to the affected areas in Cuba within these four months. The positive feedback receive from our customers has also touched us.”
Social responsibility is a high priority at Condor. As part of the ConTribute initiative, in which Condor bundles corporate social responsibility initiatives, Condor supports global aid projects.
“In the past few years we have been able to support many children in emergency situations and report relief supplies to areas affected by natural disasters,” Schneider said.
