A scuffle ensued aboard an American Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Minneapolis Saturday after a passenger allegedly attempted to open an exit door mid-flight.
According to CBS Minnesota, a man was subdued by flight attendants and passengers after reaching for the door handle while the aircraft was descending for Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.
"It wasn’t immediately after [the pilot was] letting us know that we were in descent. It was a couple of minutes afterward so he had a plan to open that door as we were getting close to the ground," passenger Richard Munassi told CBS.
Another passenger, Salman Elmi, described a "crazy experience" on Saturday's flight, pointing out that one passenger threatened to punch the man.
Munassi, who captured video of police officers escorting the man off of the plane, said everyone was "dead quiet" after the incident and that the flight "came in hot."
Nonetheless, he credited American for handling the situation smoothly.
"I think American Airlines did a great job, especially the pilot of the plane kind of keeping everything in order and keeping everyone calm," he told CBS.
The FBI will handle the investigation into the incident as it occurred mid-flight, according to an airport spokesperson.
Strangely, passengers reaching for emergency exits in mid-flight has become somewhat of a troubling trend of late.
