German airline airberlin has announced plans to introduce new four-times weekly flights between Dusseldorf and Toronto Pearson International Airport on May 1, 2018, a first for the Dusseldorf-based carrier and oneworld member.
"We are writing the first chapter in the new airberlin's success story.” said airberlin CCO Götz Ahmelmann in announcing the new route. “We now have three additional long-haul aircraft in our fleet. We are already the largest provider of US flights in North Rhine-Westphalia and Berlin. And we will continue to expand. Supplementing the US programme with additional flights to Canada is the next step on the road to success."
In addition, airberlin will also launch five-times weekly service between Dusseldorf and Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, starting May 2, 2018. The new flights are part of airberlin’s most extensive schedule in its history, with the carrier operating approximately 100 long-haul flights per week. Onward connections are also available from Dusseldorf to many airports in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
Tickets for all new routes are now available for sale.
airberlin has also announced a new agreement with US carrier, JetBlue, with airberlin passengers able to connect to/from 31 destinations in the US operated by JetBlue, from New York-JFK, Boston and Orlando.
“We are delighted that we have a new, strong partner at our side with JetBlue, in the important growth market in the USA. said Ahmelmann in a separate release. “This is only the beginning of our co-operation. Together, we are working to extend our partnership in the coming months.”
As a oneworld member, airberlin already has an agreement in the US with American Airlines, which has hubs at several of the airports to which airberlin flies, including New York-JFK, Chicago, Los Angeles and Miami.
airberlin is increasing its market leadership at Dusseldorf Airport with 13 per cent more long-haul flights. In total, airberlin offers 57 flights a week from Dusseldorf to North America and flies more frequently to North America from the North Rhine-Westphalia region of Germany than any other airline.
