Travel to Central American is booming with Canadians and Air Transat has announced it will be increasing its winter flight schedule accordingly. Other changes for the airline during the winter season include more flights to Europe and Caribbean. In total, Air Transat’s winter 2016-17 program includes 11 new routes with service to 34 Sun destinations from 22 Canadian cities.
"This winter, Air Transat will offer more sun for everyone thanks to its wide array of South and European destinations and to its greater presence in various Canadian airports," said Annick Guérard, president and general manager of Transat Tours Canada. "The addition of small aircraft to our permanent fleet has given us the flexibility to better adapt our program to meet the needs of different markets. In addition, we will continue our domestic flight program this winter, which will allow us to offer even more European destinations to travelers from Montreal and Toronto."
Central America/Caribbean
Travelers in Quebec will have access to two new routes in Central America, including a flight to San Salvador (El Salvador) from Montreal and a flight to Roatan (Honduras) from Quebec City. Additionally, the airline will increase service between San Jose, Costa Rica and Montreal.
Domestically, travelers from Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean and Abitibi-Témiscamingue can take advantage of new flight connections between Bagotville and Montreal and Rouyn-Noranda and Montreal.
From Toronto, Air Transat will roll out new flights to Managua (Nicaragua) and Cartagena (Colombia) as well as increased airlift to San Jose (Costa Rica), the French West Indies (Guadeloupe and Martinique) and Havana (Cuba).
Air Transat is also increasing service from other Ontario-area airports including new flights to Cayo Coco, Cuba from Ottawa and Santa Clara, Cuba to Windsor.
Travelers from Atlantic Canada will also have new options, including two new destinations in the Dominican Republic – Puerto Plata and Punta Cana – from Fredericton, as a new flight to Fort Lauderdale from Halifax.
Finally, in Western Canada, Los Cabos (Mexico) will now be accessible via Vancouver, as will Punta Cana via Victoria.
New Flights to Europe
Also new to the schedule this winter, Air Transat is introducing a new daily flight, all year long, from Toronto. From Vancouver, the weekly flight to London will increase to two flights a week starting this December.
While daily flights between Paris and Montreal will continue, a new weekly flight to the City of Lights from Quebec City starts this February.
Other winter flights to Europe include direct flights from Montreal and Toronto to Malaga (Costa del Sol), Spain, as well as Lisbon and Faro, Portugal.
To meet the increased demand vacationers looking to take a spring cruise in the Mediterranean, Air Transat will roll out new flights to Rome and Barcelona from Montreal and Toronto.
Domestic connections between Montreal and Toronto will also continue this winter season, increasing access to Europe for travelers from both cities.
