Air Canada widened its international net this week as it launched its first-ever flight to the African continent. With the landing of flight AC1936 at Casablanca's Mohammed V International Airport this weekend, Air Canada also became the only North American carrier to offer non-stop service to North Africa. Passengers can reach the famed Moroccan city via Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport in Montreal on a seasonal basis. Flights are being operated through Oct. 29, 2016 by Air Canada Rouge and then are scheduled to resume next May.
"The launch of Air Canada's first route to Africa is a significant new addition to our international network,” said Benjamin Smith, President, Passenger Airlines at Air Canada. “Our new service will be appealing for tourists traveling to Casablanca and beyond, the large Moroccan community based in Montreal as well as business travellers due to the historically close ties between Quebec and Morocco. Customers will now enjoy convenient service on the only non-stop flight by a North American carrier to North Africa, with convenient connections throughout Canada and the U.S. on Air Canada's extensive network. For these reasons, we aim to eventually convert this seasonal route to a year-round service. By making us one of the few carriers in the world to fly to six continents, our new Casablanca service also represents an important element in our ongoing international expansion strategy."
Travellers interested in retracing the steps of Ingrid Bergman and Humphrey Bogart can book travel packages in Casablanca with Air Canada Vacations, which includes an inventory of area hotels, excursions and car rental offerings.
The new service will be operated on a 282-seat Boeing 767-300ER, configured with three cabin classes: Economy; Preferred seating with additional legroom; and Premium Rouge with extra personal space and service. All flights qualify for Aeroplan accumulation and redemption.
