Air Canada Flights To India Back On Track

Air Canada’s flights to India are back on schedule.
In an email to TravelPulse Canada, Air Canada spokesman Peter Fitzpatrick said tonight’s (Thursday, Feb. 28) flight from Toronto to Delhi will go ahead, as will an early morning Friday (March 1) flight from Vancouver to Delhi.
Flights to India and Pakistan from around the world were severely disrupted on Wednesday of this week following military skirmishes between the two countries and closure of Pakistani airspace by Pakistan authorities.
Fitzpatrick said the sudden government air space closure forced an Air Canada flight en route from Toronto to Delhi to turn back Tuesday night over the Atlantic Ocean. A second flight from Vancouver to Delhi that was to depart Tuesday night was cancelled.
Wednesday night's Toronto-Delhi flight was cancelled (AC42), as was Thursday's early flight from Vancouver to Delhi (AC44).
Air Canada’s flight from Toronto to Mumbai went ahead on Wednesday night as it takes a different routing, Fitzpatrick said.
Things appeared to be getting back to normal today, however, and there are reports that Pakistani air space will be re-opened tonight.
Asked if Air Canada was making the move to restore flights due to an easing of tensions between Pakistan and India, Fitzpatrick said the airline “only operates when it is safe to do so.”
“Our flexible rebooking policy for customers remains in place,” he said.”Information will be updated on aircanada.com as it becomes available. We are working to move all customers from yesterday (Wednesday).”
Air Canada operates daily service from Toronto and Vancouver to Delhi and four times weekly from Toronto to Mumbai.
