Aeromexico Says Hola, Calgary
Airlines & Airports Monica Poling December 16, 2016

Mexico's global airline, Aeromexico has announced it will be adding its fourth non-stop flight into Canada. The new daily, non-stop flight between Mexico City and Calgary, will begin service on June 1, 2017. Calgary will be Aeromexico’s 19th destination in North America.
"Calgary is a very important destination for Aeromexico, as it will allow us to offer our customers the only nonstop flight available from Mexico City, providing customers with more choices for travel from Mexico, Central and South America to Canada, in addition to our flights to Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver," said Aeromexico's Chief Revenue Officer Anko van der Werff. "Canada is Mexico's third largest trading partner, and this destination promotes the oil, gas and mining industries, as well as health services and education so the airline will continue to offer increased connectivity options for its passengers.”
Aeromexico will use a 737-800 aircraft with 160 seats, including 16 in Clase Premier to service the new route. The flight departs from Calgary daily at 11:30 p.m. and arrives in Mexico City the following morning at 6:05 a.m. From Mexico City, the flight departs at 6:00 p.m. daily, and returns to Calgary at 10:30 p.m.
"Bienvenido a Alberta! This new direct flight connecting Calgary to Mexico City is fantastic news,” said the Honourable Ricardo Miranda, Minister of Culture and Tourism for the province of Alberta. “Not only will the flights bring more visitors between Mexico and the province of Alberta, but they will also help boost tourism, investment, trade and cultural opportunities,"
Tourism from Mexico to Canada has grown 65.4% over the last six years, and this figure is expected to grow even more after Canada recently lifted the visa requirement on Mexico.
The new flight provides Calgary residents direct access to Mexico City with continuing service to the nation’s popular beaches, such as Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Cozumel, Los Cabos and more. Business travellers will also have easy access to Mexico’s major financial centres, including Guadalajara, Monterrey, Mérida, León and Aguascalientes. What’s more, Aeromexico offers continuing service to numerous countries throughout Central and South America, including Guatemala, Costa Rica, Peru and Colombia. The carrier also has a codeshare agreement with WestJet that includes connections to 20 destinations throughout Canada and the United States.
"This new YYC-Mexico City non-stop service will enhance opportunities with an important two-way travel and trade market and provide great connection opportunities from YYC to countries throughout Central and South America," said Garth Atkinson, President & CEO of The Calgary Airport Authority.
