Things are looking up for fans of winter travel in North America as Aeromexico has announced the bolstering of service from Mexico City to a trio of Canadian destinations. Beginning on Dec. 1, the carrier will increase flights from Mexico’s capital to Vancouver and Toronto, followed by Montreal the next day.
The expansion allows Aeromexico to provide the Canadian market a 47 percent increase in airlift with more than 9,900 seats weekly. Flights will be operated aboard 160-seat Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
According to Jorge Goytortua, Aeromexico’s corporate sales director, Canada’s recent announcement to drop Visa requirements for Mexicans helped to spark the move. “Aeromexico’s interest in responding to the needs of our customers encouraged us to add the new flights to further consolidate the airline’s presence in this North American country,” he said.
"We know that Mexicans enjoy traveling to Canada, and Canadians are also enticed by the warm weather of Mexico's beach destinations and its charming colonial cities, which is why we decided to offer our Canadian passengers greater connectivity options to our extensive route network spanning 45 cities across Mexico.”
Flights between Mexico City and Montreal will operate on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Mexico City service to and from both Toronto and Vancouver will be available on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Jorge Morfin Stoopen, Destination Canada general director for Mexico, notes that this frequency increase to Canada reflects Aeromexico’s commitment in the development of this destination of the Mexican market. "Today, it’s estimated 200,000 national tourists travel to Canada every year,” said Stoopen.
“And each month, we register a 20 percent increase in tourism numbers. We are talking about important figures. In fact, no other country where Destination Canada has presence has seen this type of growth that compares to Mexico.”
The expansion also boosts Aeromexico’s network connectivity and development throughout North America and beyond, as it provides passengers with additional travel options.
